Mohave County Economic Development Department is teaming with Mohave Community College to offer an entrepreneur-type course centering on business development — and offering scholarships to attend.

Scholarships are accepted through Aug. 29 for participation in the NxLeveL for Entrepreneurs/Small Business course. The 12-week course includes tips for improved business practices and strategies to increase business profits.

The fall 2011 semester is set to accommodate selected participants in Kingman and Bullhead City. And spring 2012 semester for selected participants in Lake Havasu City.

Business owners must meet certain criteria to qualify for the $500 course tuition fee.

For example, the small business must be located in Mohave County, have completed two years in business, commit to attend all 12 class sessions, and agree to become a Small Business Development Center client after the training. The after-course program includes performance measurements and free ongoing assistance from MCC Small Business Development Center.

Transportation and meals aren’t included, according to a county press release.

Class sizes are limited to eight business in each sub-region of the county.

“Our biggest source of job growth comes from resident small businesses that are already here,” Lingerfelter said in a prepared statement. “(County economic development department and MCC) provide targeted training to assist existing Mohave small businesses to grow revenues which will, in turn, assist in creating new jobs and additional tax revenues in our region.”

Kelley Marsh, MCC SBDC director, and Buddy Borden, University of Nevada Associate Professor will instruct the classes. Marsh in Kingman and Havasu, and Borden in Bullhead.
